Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that the UNP, which vested people's establishments in foreigners, had no moral right to talk about privatisation. The Minister said Ranil Wickramasinghe during his term of office as Prime Minister privatised 46 State institutions, but the President during his term had not privatised any single Government institution. Participating in the adjournment debate on Air Lanka and Mihin Airlines yesterday, Minister Senaratne said it was a victory of the nation. He is glad to have joined the Rajapakse Government. It was the President who dismissed Peter Hills from the Sri Lankan Airlines. The President did not take any notice of the warning given by Emirates that they would withdraw. The President acted as a real national leader. Today they are proud that Sri Lankan Airlines is a National Airline. He recalled that in 2001, in a book, Ranil Wickramasinghe pledged to work under a UNP government on behalf of the country. The Minister urged Mr. Wickramasinghe to read it again. He queried whether this pledge was fulfilled. A delegation was sent to meet a Sikh to renew the agreement. But they signed an agreement which was worse than the previous one. After they came to Sri Lanka, the Attorney General said the agreement cannot be endorsed and it is illegal. This, he added, was how they betrayed the country.
