Don't tread on me, out-of-control Judiciary. Government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth. California has a Proposition 8 on the ballot Nov 4th defining marriage as between a man and a woman. Proposition 8 isn't an issue about "rights". It is about preserving the definition of "marriage" as between a man and a woman. Gay people can do what they want, and they can even enjoy civil benefits through domestic partnerships. But that isn't marriage. Proposition 8 is about defining marriage. Gay people should be treated with kindness and respect, like anyone. Gay people aren't the issue here nor the problem. The problem is that 4 arrogant San Fransisco lawyers in black robes sitting in their ivory tower overturned the express will of a clear majority (61%) of California citizens when those judges ruled by fiat and illegally legislated from the bench when they unilaterally redefined marriage. Prop 8 allows the citizens of California to say no to Judicial Activism and no to Judicial Tyranny. There are elements of the judiciary that are way out of control and are endangering the balance of power in our republic by getting involved in "legislating" from the bench. This has got to stop. Voting yes on Prop 8 will help put those elitist judges back in their place and let them know they cannot arrogantly overrule the will of the people in a matter as fundamental to the future of civilization as the bedrock institution of marriage. That is something important enough that it should not be left to 4 elitist judges to impose by fiat. http://www.protectmarriage.com

Nov 2, 2008 - Why not just get rid of that law that requires that schools teach marriage? Then gays can have thier equal rights, people who are afraid of gays can raise their children to be just like them, and everyone wins. Seems like a fair compromise.
JCPinCA Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - I'm a Californian and I'm voting Yes on 8.
batesm Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - My ire has more to do with the content of your character than your orientation. Your choice, to complain about your situation then blame 'moralists' and other opponents is enough to whip up sentiment against you. I wouldn't need to say a word - yours speak for themselves. Your ire is your weakness. Its not enough to be righteous in YOUR cause. You also have to be level-headed and not indignant. Debate 101: leave emotions at home.
batesm Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - That's because the activists have given us only one path. They've already changed the rules, proponents must now amend the ultimate rule-maker. That's how a democracy works. The voice of the people is the Government's mandate, not the voice of 4 judges. I would trust the fate of minorities to the grand populace quicker than I would 4 liberal judges.
batesm Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - That's right. Teach total tolerance of everything that way conflict will cease to exist. Blur the lines of right and wrong so there is no wrong. This isn't Walden's pond. Gays have equal rights. Just because their behavior is prevented from encroaching on traditional institutions doesn't mean they've lost rights. In fact, rights have been affirmed. There are many who don't want gays to raise children to be "just like them." because they object on moral grounds.
missvonkarma Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - I'm simply addressing the point of the commercial. It seems to be saying that gays shouldn't be allowed go get married because then schools will have to "teach" gay marriage. I provided a simple solution that neither side should object to.

Nov 3, 2008 - batesm says: "That's how a democracy works." The "activists" [does that term just mean "voted-against-me", batesm?] were the Supreme Court, which found Prop 22 unconstitutional. The CA Legislature (the ones we elect to make laws, remember?) passed AB 43 in 2006, legalizing same-sex marriage. The governor vetoed it. He wrote in his veto statement that to solve the marriage issue, the Court needed to "finish its rule on the challenge" which had been made to Prop 22. THAT'S how a democracy works.

Nov 3, 2008 - LMAO! Yes on 8 sucks ass--and COCK, nice, big, juicy COCK for that matter! Notice how happy the little girl is to have learned how she can marry a princess! It will NOT be taught in school, you're exploiting your own children, you poor, sorry excuse for parents! NO ON 8, NO ON 8, NO ON 8, NO ON 8, NO ON 8, NO ON 8!!!
americanMOM123 Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - I think the more "tommyguy661" comments, the better it is for the cause. Go, Tommy, Go! Spew out more of your hatred for American parents, children, and those who want nothing more than to protect their kids from the nastiness you're hurling our way.
mike2jb Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - Do you believe MARRIAGE is between a man and a woman? You're in good company. Governor Arnold believes marriage is between a man and woman, and yet he OPPOSES Prop 8. WHY? Because like most folks, the Governor can actually tell the difference between BELIEVING in something and FORCING that belief on everybody else. Don't revoke ANYONE's marriage license. Vote NO on Prop 8.
MammaleousMaximus Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - Yes on 8 please, this is the last push to keep marriage between a man and a woman, and to keep gay awareness teaching out of k-12 schools. If this dosen't pass, then that is it, there won't be another chance. Remember that this is a moral issue, if you don't agree with the gay lifestyle, vote yes on 8.
xEponina Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - Wow. People would seriously vote away equality of rights out of spite? I'm disappointed. Judges have nothing to do with this, no matter what one or two idiotic politicians may have said to piss you people off. The fact is that we can either decide to put a single sentence into the constitution or not, and not a word in that sentence says anything about education, heterosexual marriages or the judicial system.
Djbearrob Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - Seperate but equal = discrimination. Always has. As in the case of Loving v. Virginia, where it took judges to end laws against inter-racial marriage, it took judges to stand up and say that not allowing gay marriage is unqequal treatment under the law and wrong! The judicial system is there to protect the minority against the tyranny of the majority.
AequitasVeritas7777 Says:
Nov 5, 2008 - In California Prop 8 that bans same sex marriage is passing big time. Thanks to all the African Americans that voted Yes to stop same sex marriage. Thank you for preserving traditional marriage!
sonamerica1790 Says:
Nov 5, 2008 - Prop 8 appears to have passed. Now tolerance goes both ways in California. I appreciate all of you who voted and participated in democracy on this most important issue. I appreciate the kind and respectful tone and good people that are on either side of this issue. I'm glad when we can be tolerant of each other. And I'm thankful for freedom of speech, a fundamental human right.
stoptheblame Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - As a black male living in California. I never ever thought I would see the day my people would take the rights away from a certain class of people. Well, it happen. 70% of blacks voted Yes on Prop 8. Wow. I am so assamed of you guys. You took away their rights. I hope you can sleep at night.
Viper1j Says:
Nov 7, 2008 - It doesn't insert a NEW definition, it inserts A definition. And it wouldn't have been needed, if Prop 22 had been left alone. Be careful what you ask for, sometimes you get it. Words mean things.
theabomation Says:
Nov 11, 2008 - I'm African American and i would never tell another minority they couldn't marry they once told slaves they couldn't marry recall history folks
sonamerica1790 Says:
Nov 11, 2008 - Everyone is either a man or a woman. Marriage is available to all, if they choose. And if they aren't interested in man/woman relationships, that is their right too. They can live their lives, choose their partners, and even have all the same civil benefits with domestic partnerships. But 4 activist judges do not get to undemocratically redefine marriage for all the rest of us. Marriage is between a man and a woman. The People have spoken.
chroniclesofthree Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - What does being African American have to do with this issue? Slaves? That has nothing to do with sexuality unless your a gay African American who hates that supporters of 8 simply disagree with you. Don't promote hate..
theabomation Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - Im not gay but how its hating homosexuals different from hating blacks or Jews im just saying hate is wrong no matter what
sonamerica1790 Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - You're right. Hating is wrong. Prop 8 was not about hate. But I see a lot of hate and intolerance and bigotry coming from the No on 8 protests. Ironic isnt' it...
Khvito75 Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - fuck gays
sonamerica1790 Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - Khvito75, that is an unacceptable comment. We are to treat each other with kindness and respect and civility. Marriage is between a man and a woman. But we need to treat all of our neighbors with kindness, even if we don't condone their lifestyle nor be forced into redefining "marriage". Please retract your vulgar statement and apologize for your hatred.
mike2jb Says:
Nov 2, 2008 - Viper1j says: "If you can change a word to make it mean whatever you want, then so can I." Viper, the only folks who want to change something are the ones behind Prop 8. It inserts a new definition into our Constitution that was never there before. By the way, that Constitutional precedent makes it way easier for the next bunch of zealots to define away the rights of the next minority group they don't like. How long till they come after you? Don't muck with our Constitution. Vote NO on Prop 8.
