Here is a music video tribute dedicated to one of the classic partnerships of all time- James Bond and Moneypenny! The song is Call Me Irresponsible, performed by Michael Bublé. Its from James perspective serenading Moneypenny. Moneypenny was the one woman, out of a world of women, who captured the heart of James Bond, and yet never broke through the mans defences and very profound fear of actually winning the girl of his dreams. Moneypenny spoke fluent James Bond, and understood the man to his very being. She could quip with him and out quip him, arouse him with the slightest remark or glance, she had his measure, she was his support, anchor, and fantasy- she was his better half! He always came back to her! This video features Moneypenny as brilliantly and quintessentially played by the one and only Lois Maxwell. From her days with Sean, Moneypenny was ever trying to get James Bond to succumb to her charms. With the appearance of George Lazenby, Moneypenny responded with much euphoria to James new new found promise of a courtship, and then with quiet grace and dignity expressed her eternal love still smouldering for James, if he ever so desired to renew his intentions of romance with her. Back with Sean, she was again forward in her pursuit of him, yet some how showed a resigned realisation that any token from the man himself of adoration was acceptable. With Roger, she seamlessly moved into the role of pseudo-wife, trustworthy confidant, and much needed aid. She was the one woman James relied on, and required to make his life run. James also had a more mature air about him- he let Moneypenny know in his own indirectly expressed way, that he, without question, valued her company, and teasing stimulation above anything in this world to keep him with his feet on the ground. She had his heart, and it seemed he was truly grateful to have someone who so completed him. And, they were FINALLY going on that date in their last outing together. So, to my mind, Moneypenny did get her man in a sense. The Moneypennys to succeed Lois, were almost like younger versions along the timeline. Lois had a progression of emotionally longing woman, to a woman with her heart rather bruised, to that of unspoken true companion. James Bond wooed, and even wed other women, with meaningless words of love and hollow pursuit, he felt safe in conquering his many admirers, because he himself was not engaged in heart, mind, soul, or even overly satisfied. Moneypenny was everything James ever craved, but everything he ever craved, did, indeed, shake and stir him to his core. It was a beautiful constant for the first 14 films to have Lois Maxwell banter with James Bond and create an ever progressing dynamic of the one stable thing in the universe of one 007. She interacted flawlessly with all 3 men. She shone like that of a newly minted penny! Hope you enjoy my salute to Moneypenny and the sparkling Lois Maxwell. She was not a bond girl- she was Bonds girl!
