my defense of the appearance to the 500 witnesses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Fjt76vYi5E brief synopsis: Tooltime makes 3 claims 1: the appearances in 1 Corinthians 15 were merely visionary experiences, and not physical bodily experiences. this is supported by Paul's description of his own appearance in Galatians 1:11-12 2: The Corinthians had no way to verify the eye-witness accounts because they lived 700 miles away from Jerusalem 3: the argument for the appearance to the 500 is just as silly as his own claim to walk on water in plattsburgh NY these are rebutted by 3 facts 1: Paul compares himself to an "untimely birth" in 1 Corinthians 15. Paul used this to convey to the Corinthians that his circumstances for becoming an apostle were drastically different from the other Apostles' call to apostleship. if we know that his experience was different, then we should likewise assume that their appearances were drastically different. given the synoptic and Johannine tradition of physical appearances, we should assume that Paul agreed that these were physical bodily events 2: Diaspora Jews would visit Jerusalem once every year on passover from all over the Roman empire. if they could do this, then it certainly is reasonable to say that some of the Corinthians could have 3: Tooltime is making his claim in front of skeptics who have niether the means nor the motive to verify these accounts. Paul however was writing to an audience whose entire worldview revolved around the truth of the resurrection of Christ

Knowntje Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - this might sound like a really stupid question, but what do they actually do at church? does the priest or whatever just read from the bible and people listen to him reading it? Or are can people ask the priest things or what really goes on inside a church? Yeah I know I probably sound pretty stupid, but I have never been to a church in my life so I honestly have no clear picture of a church sermon

migkillertwo Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - "this might sound like a really stupid question" Western Europe's secular nature negates that LOL. "but what do they actually do at church?" at my church the pastor gives a sermon on a subject pertaining to the bible after we sing hymns. "does the priest or whatever just read from the bible and people listen to him reading it?" not to any church I have been to.

Knowntje Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - so what was todays sermon about?

migkillertwo Says:

Sep 7, 2008 - it was about "success", probably about success as a disciple. but you can listen to his sermons at gbcheartline(dot)org. I think he podcasts them all

migkillertwo Says:

TruthCeeker333 Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - Good point about Diaspora Jews! By the way, you should pronounce 'Diaspora' like 'Dye ahs spora'. There were Jews outside of Jerusalem who never returned after the first captivity, when they were dispersed. This is the meaning of the term 'Diaspora', 'Dispersed'.

migkillertwo Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - "By the way, you should pronounce 'Diaspora' like 'Dye ahs spora'." i had a sneaking suspicion that it was pronounced like that, but I learned about the jewish pilgramage feasts in bible class DON BECHTEL FTW! Mr. Bechtel was my bible teacher BTW.
