Scott Hamilton Quartet with special guests: Warren Vaché & John Allred Paying at the New Orleans&Classics Festival in Ascona Performing dates: 30/6 - 6/7 2008 Style: mainstream USA/ D/ CH FIRST TIME IN ASCONA! Scott Hamilton and Olaf Polziehn: the duo of marvels! Hamilton is the most prominent living mainstream saxophonist. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1954, Hamilton established himself early on the USA jazz scene, for his beautiful sound and impeccable phrasing, evoking admiration from devotees of this style of music. His first recorded work, released in 1977 on Concord Label, is called "Scott Hamilton is A Good Wind Who Is Blowing Us N.1" and takes its name from an outstanding recording of Leonard Feather. But it is only the first of a memorable series of about 30 albums. Scott is highlighted playing in a variety of contexts, from small group to string orchestra, in collaboration with musicians like Ruby Braff and Dave McKenna. Having assimilated the lesson/study of John Coltrane, Scott continued to play in his favorite style, the one that originally turned him on to jazz: the great ballads composed by musicians like Dave Brubeck, Fats Waller, Illinois Jacquet, Benny Carter; and his other great passion, the blues. With him, beneath the plane-trees of JazzAscona, will be a pianist who is not only his good friend, but above all one of the best pianists of the European school, the German Olaf Polziehn, accompanied by his trio. Polziehn, impassioned, like Hamilton, since the beginning of his jazz career, by the world of standards, shows how it is possible to give new lifeblood to the tradition, thanks to his imagination, which lets loose in his improvisations and and to his expressive intensity. The quartet is rounded out by Giorgos Antoniou on bass and Steve Brown on drums. www.jazzascona.com www.lightronixprod.com
