Paul "Sage" Francis (born November 2, 1977 in Miami, Florida) is a hip-hop artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. Sage Francis' style blends a varying tone and delivery with subject matter that focuses on intricate sequences of widely varying imagery, metaphors, the occasional pun, absurdism, word play often times in the form of phonetic mix-ups and rhetorical excursions, and pop culture references, while including touchstones of traditional hip hop such as storytelling and self-promotion.

Aug 9, 2008 - No doubt he's smart as hell and a deep poet but his rhyme style just doesn't sound good to me. I'm into Big L, Rakim, Nas, Eminem, Biggie, Krs-One and A Tribe Called Quest. I guess their flows just sound smoother and more traditional. But props to Sage.

Aug 20, 2008 - Basically you like crap and can't handle the truth of Sage. No worries, not everyone was designed for thinking. Not everyone is able to handle lyrics with meaning.
ramirezlee Says:
Aug 20, 2008 - Krs-One has lyrics with meaning. So does Nas and A Tribe Called Quest. Eminem doesn't rap about hoes and money. Also, Lupe Fiasco is dope and is a thinker. Let me guess...you're probably white...and an indie rock/metal head/hardcore guru just like the majority of the Sage Francis fans. Most of them no nothing about traditional/old skool hip hop and how it started. Or maybe you do....? I'm just not into the whole obscure weirdo beat poet shit. Sorry but this music doesn't tickly my fancy.

Aug 20, 2008 - What is crap to you? Crap to me is Nelly, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris, Ass Like That, Just Lose It, Puke, Crazy In Love, Big Weenie by Eminem, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Flo Rida, Three Six Mafia...to name some... For you to say Krs-One is crap emphasizes my point that a lot of Sage Francis fans don't appreciate what paved the way for artists like Sage. Maybe you do know your shit...but the majority of Sage fans are indie rock fuck heads who don't know shit about old hip hop.

Sep 26, 2008 - If you like this, check out non-prophets - hope. Its a right album, quality hiphop, sage on mic, joey beats on production, fuck yeaaaa

Nov 3, 2008 - dude, it sounds to me like you don't really know much about hip-hop. How is Lupe a dope thinker. That's hilarious. Maybe you should check out Project Blowed or Living Legends, because you're quite aloof about what dope hip-hop is lol
ramirezlee Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - Check this out, hombre. First of all don't question what I know about hip hop. You think I don't know shit about it or what? I respect Sage for his conscious mind and his ability as a great writer. But he doesn't have the rhythm and flow to go along with his powerful lyrics. I prefer meaningful raps with a dope ass flow and catchy rhythm. See KRS-One, Tribe Called Quest and Nas. Please listen to Lupe Fiasco and Bishop G - Little Weapon...then maybe you wont question him as a conscious rapper.

Nov 3, 2008 - Lupe Fiasco - Streets on Fire is a great song too. It has thoughtful lyrics, creative wordplay and a dope flow. Shoot me! I like a rapper who has sold over 500,000 albums. oooo I'm a semi-mainstream supporter. That is sooo not hip hop! Oh boy! Sorry I'm just not into how Sage flows...I think he can do better. It just doesn't sound that good to my ears.

Nov 4, 2008 - I'll admit wholeheartedly that rappers like KRS, The Pharcyde, all sorts of people, paved the way for emcees like Sage. However, I don't feel that it justifies selling out. Sure, you must admit that KRS', seeing that that's your primary example, quality has diminished significantly. I'm just saying that there is a new school out there. I urge you, like I said, to check out Project Blowed. The may be more to your liking... and, well, not sell outs
