Steiner School is a portrait of the well known Holywood school in N.Ireland, based on the progressive ideas of Rudolf Steiner. The ethos aims to nurture the whole child, both academically and spiritually and to develop the individual talents, which every child possesses. In the words of one teacher at the school, "we will develop their abilities so that when they become young adults, they can go out and create society as they want to create it, not as we want them to be". At a time of national debate around the pressures on 'childhood' and at a point when school and university systems are increasingly 'industry-focused', this interesting film offers a child-centred view of education, which seems as radical now as it did in the 1920s.

Mar 30, 2008 - Looks like a beautiful school system, I would love to learn more, Thanks for posting this :)

Apr 4, 2008 - Steiner Waldorf are a front for anthroposophy, a apiritual pseudo religion. It's beliefs include the superioty of the aryan race ove lower and "evil" races. The schools are in place to perpare children for their spiritual journey of reincarnation to higher planes, for earth's transition to the next post atlantean epoch. They are not open about the anthroposophical core of the schools and behave like a cult. Read Steiner's beliefs onthe Rudolf Steiner archive, it's all there.

Apr 6, 2008 - Nice video! As I mentioned in a comment on Part I, LondonRefugee's comments are inaccurate. Steiner education is one of the best methods out there, but certainly it is a good idea to do your own research, and there is some good information online.

May 11, 2008 - @LondonRefugee. Thank you for your information! This is definately a dodgy teaching method, which my children will NOT be a part of. God bless. =)

May 11, 2008 - This appeals to those who are into new age, and witchcraft.

May 23, 2008 - It's interesting that the teacher here descibes restrictions of the national curriculum. The Steiner curriculum is restricted and based ENTIRELY on his clairvoyant visions. The children have no other stimulation than one teacher for seven years, no text books, no visual or aural variety. Notice how the paintings were all the same- same coloures, copied variations of the teachers version. Prescriptive, rigid, and for the children VERY boring. The schools are anthroposophy schools. Indoctriation.

Jun 13, 2008 - I'm interested to know which parts of my comments are inaccurate openminded? What do you suggest people research? Anthroposophy? Steiner's belief system? They HAVE to do their own research because the shools mislead in such a huge way, ther's no choice is there? Research Steiner, read his bliefs about racial and spiritual superiority, occult science, directing children towards the spiritual world and holding back their intellectual capacities for spiritual enlightenment. Best method for WHHAT?
