I made this movie after working with a number of horses with problems and watching others walk down that path. Too many people watching the behaivor, and forgetting to really question the why. For some riders it is a lack of knowledge. For others it is ignorance, pride, maybe even turning a blind eye. When we ask a horse to work we have taken on a responsibility. There is reason behind every action. Whether it be pain, fear, need to be dominent, misunderstanding, or something else. If you know why you can react why. When you don't know why it is more likely to send you down the wrong path. I am not perfect, no one is. I have made mistakes, and will make more. Learn and grow from them, but don't ignore and hide them. Take the time to understand. The horse won't lie.

Oct 6, 2008 - I give you alot of credit for working with the problem horses. Many people sell them, get them "broken in" by trainers, or sells them for slaughter. I wish people would try to work through the problems, and not give up. What i did with training my friends POA is that you have to look at it from the horse's prospective. I mean the punkin on the trail may not look scary to us, but to the horse they have no clue if it'll bite them or kill them!

Oct 8, 2008 - this is cool because i can relate to these videos. my aunt and i break horses (the good way). we buy our horses when they are yearlings and begin training them when they are old enough. it is so much fun except when you fall off. but there is a difference between breaking a horse in and breaking a horse's spirit. you have to gain trust and respect to be able to train a horse. you DONT have to force it on the horse.

lindalovinda Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - How is it possible to break someone 'in a good way'? Listen to your words...Horses don't need to be broken, not more than human beings. You like being broken? I admire halfpassgal's effort to give these horses a better life. I admire her intension and the fact she understand that horse is a living being, I just disagree on her chosen method. That is all.

Oct 8, 2008 - wow great video!! this really touched me! you are an amazing rider!! keep up the amazing work girl!

charley111 Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - The term "broken" is not too mean broke as in shattered or in pieces. All equestrians use this term. Quit being ignorant. Actually BREAKING as in abuse hasn't been used in years in actually formulated training. Those who do abuse are disgusting. A horse's spirit is not broken. Training can bring out their best aspects and features. From jumping to barrel races. Real riders like HalfPassgal know how to use this form of training. A rider and horse are a team. Do a little more research moron.

lindalovinda Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - I am an equestrian and have done my research. Doing much research every day, and that's my reason for saying the things I say. If it's still called 'breaking', then it is breaking. History shows that things get new names or terms when they change into something different, when views change. Do some research yourself my friend. I believe in educating a horse like you would edicate a child. Not simply break, dominate and train it! This view I got from doing research. I can highly recommend it.

lindalovinda Says:

Oct 8, 2008 - If you did some research on the horse anatomy you would find out many things...like the real effect of a bit, the discomfort and pain it causes. You'd discover how muscle fibres in the horses back get damaged during riding every day, no matter how well-fitted saddle. Oh you'd discover so much. It is not me who is the ignorant of us two....

barrelgirl4life Says:

Oct 12, 2008 - i'm not sure if he use to be a barrel horse, but if he did, its natural for him to run. try coming up at a slow walk and just do numerous circles around the barrel till he calms down then leave the barel, if he tries to speed up, pull him back and do more tight circles till he calms down the move forward again and reward him for not speeding up. feel free to message if you have more questions
