When was the last time Bama played Nebraska? You have to go all the way back to 1978. In 1977 Nebraska handed Alabama it's only loss: a 24-31 defeat in Lincoln, a game in which Jeff Rutledge threw 5 interceptions. A year later the Tide's "Redwood Forest Defense" buried the Cornhuskers 20-3 on their way to a National Championship in 1978.

May 27, 2008 - Loved hearing John Forney's play by play. It brings memories back!! Wish I could see a video of this game as well as several others from this time frame. The 1971 USC game which started the Wishbone era at Alabama, the LSU game in Baton Rouge in 1971 or 1972 where Wayne Wheeler caught a TD pass on the first play from scrimage & it ended something like 42-21. If anyone can tell me how to get those please post here & I will appreicate it very, very much! Thanks & Roll Tide Roll

Jun 1, 2008 - Wayne Wheeler caught that pass against Tennessee at Legion Field in '72. I was at the game. You got the score correct though. Alabama started out hot and had a 21 to zip lead but UT battled back behind the great Condredge Holloway at QB. Other key Alabama scores was an 80 yard run by Wilbur Jackson, and Robyn Cary returned a punt from around midfield for a score. It was a great game, a beautiful day, and great to be 12 years old and at the game with my Dad and older brother.
