The world premiere performance of "The Miraculous Tale," a work for alto saxophone and derabucca (Egyptian goblet drum), by the Egyptian-born American composer Halim El-Dabh (b. 1921). The work is in three movements: Lightning, Tenderness, and Stratosphere. The saxophonist is Ken Radnofsky (professor of saxophone at the New England Conservatory, The Boston Conservatory, and the Longy School of Music) and the derabucca player is Takaaki Masuko (professor of percussion at the Longy School of Music). The performance was recorded at Distler Performance Hall, Granoff Music Center, Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts on March 4, 2007 (the 86th birthday of Halim El-Dabh). The concert was organized by Tufts University music professor John McDonald, and filmed by Tufts's teleproductions department.
