Based on analysis of Y-Chromosome haplogroups it can be determine the origins of a person (or group of persons) who carry a specific haplogroup. All persons of a certain haplogroup (for example R1b) share the same origins. The results of genetic researches that were done in Croatia in the last few years do not support the 'Iranian origin theory'. 40-50% of Croats belong to haplogroup I, 30-40% of Croats belong to R1a. 10-15% of Croats belong to R1b. Other haplogroups were found in 'insignificantly' small percentages on Croatian population. Haplogroup I is most common in Western Balkans, Scandinavia and Sardinia. Herzegovians 63.8%, Sardinians 42.3%, Bosnians 42.0%, Norwegians 40.3%. In Croatia 40-50% (highest frequency is found in southern part of the country). Haplogroup I is almost non-existent outside of Europe. R1a is most common among Eastern European (Slavic) populations. Poles 56%, Ukrainians 54%. In Croatia 30-40% (highest frequency is found in continental part of the country). R1b is most common among Western European populations.Welsh 89%, Basque 88%, Irish 81%, Catalan79%, Scottish 77%, Dutch70%. In Croatia 10-15% (highest frequency is found in northwestern part of the country). During the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), 10000-20000 years ago, Southern Europe served as a refuge for northern populations. During LGM, mutations occurred on R1b in Eastern Europe, R1a arose. After the LGM, Europe was repopulated from south to north. R1b spread across Western Europe. Haplogroup I spread from the Balkans across Central Europe up into Scandinavia. R1a spread across Eastern Europe. R1a arrived to the territory of modern-day Croatia during two migration waves. First (to the continental part of Croatia), after the domestication of the hors, around 3000 B.C. Second, during the Migration Period in the Early Middle Ages and the arrival of Slavic tribes from Eastern Europe (Southern Poland, Western Ukraine) to the Adriatic sea. Slavic invaders mixed with Romanized autochthonous population formed the Croatian nation.

Mar 27, 2008 - @CroatianPatriot So, do the South Slavic-speaking countries (Yugoslavia)have much in common with the Northern Slavs in terms of physical appearance? In my opinion, the Southern Slavs mainly look like Greeks, Italians, Zazas, Turks, Iranians and peoples from the Caucasus... do you agree?

CroatianPatriot Says:
Apr 28, 2008 - R1a originate in today's Slavic lands (Ukraine) and yes it spread after the domestication of the hors across hole Eastern Europe and Central Asia (what is today the formal Soviet Republics in C Asia), but it originates in Slavic lands and it is most characteristicall for Slavs. But Iranians have the marker J, that marker ist most common by Semitic speaking peoples.

Apr 28, 2008 - these strong genes. the genes regulating a skin colour and a build unstable. because of this possible, that in the truth of the Ethiopian ones European , even the mongoloid Kyrgyzs. The today's languages and folk did not exist yet when these markers appeared.
zazairanic Says:
May 1, 2008 - I assess the Croatian race like this: they are fairer (lighter)than the Serbs and darker than the Slovenes. And yes it's true, the Croats have more Slavic genes than Serbs. This is because the Serbs mixed more, especially with Thracians, Greeks and Turks. However, let's not forget that a proportion of Croats have Iranic blood!
zsoltfejedelem79 Says:
May 1, 2008 - you misunderstood something according to me. from which this the video sounds they 40,20,15 a thousand year mutations. Slav ones did not exist yet then, Turkishs. and these genes do not indicate the skin colour. but it is showed, who you are related to how, on a paternal branch.
naseza Says:
May 2, 2008 - who said that croats come from iran? and anyway, what's wrong with being from the same race as iranians? croats have their own things to be proud of, just like persians. what difference does it make? they
