Apr 19, 2008 - Something is wrong with the sound of this glorious recording; there is serious pitch waver!

Apr 22, 2008 - It isn't something wrong. I think it is an old gramophone-record-song.

Apr 23, 2008 - There is nothing wrong with this original recording. Depending on how you are playing this back, ie. through large bass cones, then adjust your bass and treble if necessary through your sound card, equalizer or graphics. The professional cardridge I use picks up every tiny detail. Listen to the Nicholas Danby organ videos I have added. You can hear the birds outside the church. CD's give an artificial sound. You cannot compare this to a CD. Enjoy.

Apr 24, 2008 - this piece always reminded me of Faure, so it was very interesting to me to learn the Ravel studied under Faure. thanks!

Jun 23, 2008 - The title is a play on the sounds (very assonant in French) infante/défunte. Translated, it misses all whimsy. While Ravel had no particular defunct infanta in mind, the title infanta applies exclusively to a Spanish royal princess; the piece also somehow evokes those very hieratic portraits of Spanish royalties by the likes of Sánchez-Coelho, Pantoja de la Cruz or, indeed, Velázquez.

Jun 28, 2008 - Marvelous and so moving! Reminds of the sea as I sit by my window and listen to the magic of Ravels singular magic.
