A couple years ago I did a heck of alot of research on SRV's "Number One" strat. I got samples of magnet wire from 1959 thanks to a good customer and great player Karl Angerer, as well as specs from his guitar and a couple others. These are the result of that research. Do I sound or play like SRV? No. Do you want that tone? His tone was the result of these type pickups, and basically a strat with almost no finish on it, coils wrapped in copper shielding tape, a treble killing long coil cord, his modded amps, and of course his fantastic hands. The lack of finish on his guitar contributed greatly to softening these type of bright pickups. If you want to do the work, these pickups will get you there. Meanwhile I am working on a set that will get you his tone without doing alot of tricks like he used, so stay tuned, subscribe to my newsletter if you want to be notified, or watch my YouTube space in future.

May 13, 2008 - One must also take into consideration the very significant difference between rosewood board guitars and maple. I've had maple and rosewood on my last two strat bodies, both on each, and the difference is very significant. Rosewood takes the edge right off of the note and gives it more width for sure..or softens it if you like..

Jun 2, 2008 - your style sounds more like clapton you dont attack the strings enough . clapton hit the notes very softly. srv is the opposite. just hit the strings a little harder. great for clapton though

Jun 27, 2008 - Only the last part is a blessing :D Nah though, you've obviously created a wonderful pickup. I'm not much for strats and planned on modding one with a stacked single coil for a more powerful sound, but I'll keep these in mind for the neck and middle slots. Cool. Nice playing, nice demo. Congrats on a great product.

Oct 26, 2008 - hahaha, ya no worries...for a long time coming LOTS of guitar players have been and will be trying to emulate SRV's playing style...Stevie was a completely different breed.Hes the greatest guitar player that ever lived and died at the mere age of 35 years old. Shit he was great at 14 years old.I saw him in texas at The Fog, he opened for J.Winters.This little kid was playing mean blues and jump blues way back then, like no one i had ever seen before.I like the tone of these pickups you make her.
