Sep 29, 2008 - People are having children whether they are religious or not. I'd say many of those who are not religion don't really think about pros and cons of having children just like thoe who are religious don't really think about the pros and cons of it. Actually I'd say many of those who are not religious have kids just because it's a by-product of having sex for pleasure and keeping their partner tied/bound to them. Yes, I think some people have children to keep their partner tied/bound to them.

Sep 29, 2008 - It's interesting to wonder why people have children. I've heard it said that some people have children to carry themselves on. They don't have a religion but somehow they think/believe that they will live on in their offspring. I don't know if all who think thiss way literally think that they themselves live on in their offspring but I actually think some of them do think this! I find this both sad and disturbing really.

Sep 29, 2008 - Gary, you speak essentially about the meaning of life, and that if we don't have a religion then we can obviously not live by the given meaning of any particular religion. Thus, as you say we see no meaning of man, so instead we try to create a meaning. So we try to do as least harm as possible and to try to help humanity evolve as a meaning. Yet we don't really see humanity as any more than an accidental occurance so even this meaning doesn't really help. Really we still live without meaning.

Sep 29, 2008 - What if you and Matt are both right? What if there is an innate need to consume/reproduce and an innate love we all have for each other coexisting withing us? Could the key is a BALANCE between the two? Although, I have to say that, from what i can percieve in my enviorment, people have strayed-- possibly too far--toward consumption and reproduction.

Ah - stress on that tho - expense can be regulated/reduced. In the right environ - life for childling and parent can be pleasant life-experience/addiction. Oct 1, 2008 - "addict" and "addiction" is it the same to say "a reflexive attention to sensations"? then the drug addict is a drug addict for life. value judgements upon the drug addict are fruitless. consumption & reproduction are then synchronized with the purpose of life. the choices made by the drug addict on a subconscious level may exhibit unexpectedly as simple irrational behaviour, this is not to be mistaken with deliberately distorting reality to gain a benefit from another's suffering.
