Dave plays the psaltery with the aid of two pet mice. The strings are plucked by their little paws as they grasp for something to hold onto, presumably to get away from the strange man holding them by the tail. If you think this constitutes animal cruelty, keep in mind that a good portion of similar pet-store-bought mice are only purchased to feed snakes. These little guys get to run around in their cage until they die.
