Aug 6, 2008 - Vintage original, followed by select boutique replicas; Germino, Metro, Bogner...so many other XLNT choices before considering a Marshall reissue. Those guys are really Artists, and each unit gets individual attention--all hand made! I hear a certain dissonant frequency inherent in the reissues-I've tried to ignore, but it's just undeniable...

PlexiDemo Says:

Aug 6, 2008 - Actually, when the family's home I do use a THD HotPlate, attenuated @ -8dB. This particular '67 head sounds great even on 4-5 without it. From 1970 & on the 100s are VERY LOUD. I once had a 1972 JMP 100W that was putting out in exess of 150-Watts! The power trany tolerances varied quite a bit during that time.

PlexiDemo Says:

Aug 6, 2008 - Sounds good! Depending on guitar, pickups, etc. I usually have the presence turned way down, bass ~3-4, Mid 8-10, Treble 5-7. Of course, all these older amps EQ is variable depending on component tolerances of the tone circuit, etc. You could try experimenting with an old MXR 6 or 10-band EQ. Thanks for the post!

Aug 6, 2008 - Haha, well I recently aquired a bunch of cash by selling stuff on ebay (lol), and even though I'm just a 15 year old, I want a plexi. Believe it or not a play a couple gigs a month. But usually clubs/bars/festivals, and stuff of that nature. Would the 100w 1959sl be too loud for that? It seems to sound a bit thicker than the 1987xl 50w, that's the only reason that I'm even considering an amp that loud.

PlexiDemo Says:

Aug 6, 2008 - You know, as great as these amps are, I gig with boutique replicas. Save your money. I mostly play a Germino Classic 45, and a Metro 50 watt small box. I've got about 4 of them and they sound great! I need to post more vids with the metro, as the vid I posted 'Somebody Get Me A Doctor' came out distorted. Stay tuned, and Keep playin'!

blahman178 Says:

Aug 6, 2008 - K thanks, I'm just looking at the RI's. I don't have the money for originals, and I'd be afraid to break them. Thanks I sub'd!

terminalninja Says:

Aug 22, 2008 - Could you play it on the neck pickup like he does on the recording? I'd like to hear how that sounds.

PlexiDemo Says:

Aug 22, 2008 - Good Ear! Yes, I could do that. Actually, there are several overdubs on that original recording. The clean track with the neck position pickup and reverb is slightly behind the 'dirty' track. When I play this live I switch between the middle and neck, depending on which strat I'm playing. This particular amp has a darker tone, and I didn't want to loose it in the mix so I left it in the middle position. Thanks for watching!

Aug 23, 2008 - :). i might be getting a super bass or peavey windsor soon. so i can move up into the full tube world :P.

PlexiDemo Says:

Aug 23, 2008 - Cool! Check out the Germino LV55 too. I think it has the Plexi Bass Circuit, but my Fav is the '67 PA Plexi shared-cathode config. I'll post some vids of that 100 Watt next time the Family is out of the house ;)

terminalninja Says:

Aug 24, 2008 - awesome, thanks mate.

Aug 24, 2008 - and its cool you know that much bout hendrix

blacksab07 Says:

Aug 31, 2008 - Reet, i was wondering, u seem like a person who knows his amps, so wot head would you recommend for like AC/DC or Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin ETC, (classic rock) stuff? i was originaly thinking of a JCM800 and then a 1959SLP but now ive found out about JMP ones, i'd really appreciate your advice, cheers.

blacksab07 Says:

Aug 31, 2008 - oh also!, do you know how to connecet marshall full stacks together?? Like when they have a wall of them in concerts.

PlexiDemo Says:

Sep 2, 2008 - For Zeppelin and Classic Rock, I'd recommend a Plexi Replica like Germino or Metro. This will work for AC/DC, but I think Angus Used Later Model JMPs with 6550 tubes, which give more clean headroom and a little more pwr output. I prefer KT66s or 6L6s to 6550s, and just EQ the tone you want. For the gainier tones, of course EL34s break-up sooner and work well with the older Plexi Bass circuit. Good Luck!

PlexiDemo Says:

Sep 2, 2008 - If you are fortunate enough to have the space for a wall of Marshalls, and tolerant neighbors, Jumper the inputs with a guitar cord.

blacksab07 Says:

Sep 2, 2008 - great! thanks for the help, i was wondering cause im in a rock band, for the future when i get more equipment, cheers BUT ow wud i connect A JCM800? They only have one input dont they?

PlexiDemo Says:

Sep 5, 2008 - For single input JCM800s there's a couple ways you can go. If it has a slave output, I think it does as my Jubilee has one and it's basically a JCM800. You can also use the effects send, but the only pre-amp will be driven by the primary head. Another option is to run several wye cables to chain the inputs together.

PlexiDemo Says:

Sep 5, 2008 - Thanks! ;)

ukwan Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - I have an old 1969 Super Bass loaded with EL34's as you probably know the difference between the early super basses and '67 super leads isn't much at all, I can get great tone in spades with this thing!

vivalaking Says:

Sep 29, 2008 - blacksab07- if ya have to ask, you arent ready for it yet.

jimtoxford Says:

Oct 5, 2008 - tasty tone

JimiRayYng Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - yep thats THE tone alright

PlexiDemo Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - Thanks guys, it's A Tone at least ;) I was a little close to the amp without the benefit of noise-canceling pickups, but I think that's the trade-off.
