Forbidden Passions is a teledrama super production. Freely adapted from the work by Camilo Castelo Branco, one of the greatest Portuguese writers, this exciting period piece stands out for its first-rate direction and scripting, and its highly faithful reproduction of the age. It is a drama full of mystery, adventure and sensuality... bound to capture the hearts of an adult audience. This beautiful plot interweaves three love stories from the beginning of the 19th century. From Lisbon and Coimbra, in Portugal, to Rio de Janeiro and the small interior town of Resende, in Brazil, the drama offers love, hope, rivalry, mystery, idealism and struggle, as the most improbably destinies cross. Simão and Teresa, children of families long divided by hatred, fall hopelessly in love. They receive neither the blessings of their parents nor support from society. However, among the rebels, slaves and marginalized people, these young lovers find the help they need to fight for their love, through tragedy and adventure. Father Dinis, a mysterious man with three more identities -- an aristocrat, a caped avenger and a French duke -- devotes his life to helping young lovers and those in need. It is his way of purging the guilt he holds from a secret past. But, his true battle is against the love he feels for Antônia Valente, a woman in search of her daughter, who was stolen more than 20 years ago, when still a child. Alberto de Miranda is an ex-privateer who made his wealth from piracy. Now, he dreams of a new life as a respected businessman. In Portugal, he becomes involved with the Duchess of Ponthieu, and breaks her heart. He heads off to Brazil, where he hopes to begin anew, through the love he shares with the young Eugênia Valente.
