A fantastic Mekons track with enough energy to power a small Scandinavian country. I first came across the band on finding the 'Fast Product: First Year Plan' album, but nothing tops this burst of stop-start punk-pop...... Imagery from various shorts collected together by the BFI celebrating the 'Free Cinema' movement that certainly makes nonsense of Francois Truffaut's claims that British Cinema is a "contradiction in terms". In the 1950s (inspired by Italian neo-realism and the French New Wave) directors such as Lindsay Anderson & Lorenza Mazzetti made works of genuine visual poetry - on low budgets, in real locations and featuring untrained, unrehearsed members of the public... Here's a mash up of a saucy fairground dance and some mind-boggling torture devices (in waxwork) for your viewing pleasure.
