When Khomeini was forced to stop his aggression into Iraq,(After Iraq had retreated to its International boarders, it was the mullahs who insisted to continue the war till they reach Palestine through karbala)taking advantage of Iraqi mistake, the opposition who had mediated to promote peace, had to leave Iraqi territory for its homeland. This was because of immense propaganda against it dimmed by the billions of dollars worth of defacing campaign waged by the regime. They had claimed that the NLA was a product of Iraq and the war. Where as the foundations of the NLA went back to 1981 far before this war and it had its own independence. The only choice left for the liberation army was to leave the foreign land and prove that it was independent and was not a product of a miss advantage of war. It lead its army into Iran. No other country had till them accepted the presence of an opposition to the Tyranny in Iran, from which they had fear. During this operation of course many of the NLA members were either killed or wounded and many captured alive and hung in public later. Some in prisons.. The result was that Khomeini declared that there will be no war yet. He was forced to refrain from another destructive war , which had brought death of millions in Iran and uncompromising financial set backs and ruins for the Iranian people. Let alone an insecure life day by day.
