Great tune. This is the original first pressing of Come On Honey. Come On Honey was also pressed on the Island label with a different flip in the early 60s. The label was from the Bronx but the record was actually pressed and distributed in Jamaica. I don't think many copies made it to America. I think this song inspired My Boy Lollypop by Millie Small (another Jamaican pop song). I believe The Jiving Juniors were living in The Bronx at the time because that also recorded for Asnes records, another Bronx label. Their origins are most definitely Jamaican.

Jul 23, 2008 - Jamaican 45s are hit or miss.. They either have amazing sound quality like this one or they're really raw.

Jul 27, 2008 - Just checking your description, Millie's 'My Boy Lollipop' was actually a cover of a U.S. record of the same name by Barbie Gaye which pre-dates this one. Her version doesn't have a harmonica break but a sax instead. Barbie Gaye's original version was a sound system hit in Jamaica and might have inspired both this and the closer cover by Millie.

Aug 2, 2008 - I was just looking through some of my records and I found another one by The Jiving Juniors on Blue Beat titled 'Lollipop Girl' which is even closer to 'My Boy Lollipop' than 'Sugar Dandy'! I was actually thinking of uploading the other side of 'Lollipop Girl' ('Dearest Darling'), an excellent ballad reminiscent of 'Love Is Strange' by Mickey and Silvia..

Aug 8, 2008 - You KNOW your music :) Would you happen to know if this was recorded in Jamaica or the US? I know the Jiving Juniors recorded on another Bronx label, Asnes. This record label was from The Bronx but it was pressed and distributed in Jamaica.

Aug 12, 2008 - Probably American - just because I like early Jamaican music and I don't recognise the sound of that band. Have been wrong before though...
