This video is a vast improvement over the original one posted the day after the storm. *** Hurricane Dolly shocked forecasters and all of South Texas when it came ashore and released enormous amounts of energy upon South Padre Island. The news crews were too scared to go out and give you the complete story on this viscious storm, but thanks to this video, not only will you learn the truth about this storm, but you will also experience first hand just how powerful an eyewall of a hurricane can be. So...you think you want to be in a hurricane? Think again. And after you watch it, you be the judge. Was this a Cat II storm as the news and weather services reported, or was it a major Cat III storm that put many thousands of people packed on a barrier island at high risk of severe injury or even death? Leave a comment and tell everyone what you think! Oh...and as always...enjoy!

Jul 28, 2008 - As a resident of the area and being present during the hurricane (in Harlingen, TX where the hurricane decided to stall and go 4mph) this was an experience...one that really took a toll on not only South Padre Island but the surrounding areas as well. We are still trying to pick up the pieces of this...heck I barely got power earlier today. Thank you for posting this video.

Jul 30, 2008 - Wow, this is amazing. I'm going to South Padre Is. from August 2 - 9, so I'm wondering how the damage is when I get there. Awesome choice in music, you did an awesome job filming and cutting.

Jul 31, 2008 - It's interesting that that Versa in the parking lot was bouncing up and down and moving back and forth before the eyewall (most noticeably when those people are behind pulled behind the camera) but during the eyewall it seemed to be standing still. Interesting.

Aug 1, 2008 - Hey Brian...I too wanted to once again convey my great appreciation for this awesome footage you captured of Hurricane Dolly on SPI! This is a perfect illustration of how the intense convection focused in the SW eyewall allowed some of the strongest winds contained in the mean Boundary Layer to reach the surface (in contrast to the limited/weakening convection contained in the NE quadrant near landfall). Once again, Great Footage and editing!:)
bosburn Says:
Aug 2, 2008 - Thanks! This was the most intense experience in my life, & I've been to a few of these type of storms. Location & time of day made it possible for me to really put it on the line for these shots. I'm very happy you enjoyed my efforts.

Aug 5, 2008 - Dolly, Dolly, Dolly. How powerful she was. Could've been a 3, but likely a strong 2 hurricane.

Aug 24, 2008 - This is the best hurricane video on Youtube. You guys should go around the country when hurricanes hit, record them and sell them b/c to tell you the truth, it'll sell if the footage were as good as what i just saw. 5/5!

Sep 1, 2008 - thats because of the mechanichs at work within hurricanes. Its pretty rare to see lightning in the eyewall, although it is possible

Sep 3, 2008 - Brian, I noticed you got the shot of our camera guy falling down on the bricks. Would you happen to have video of the reporter with him getting off the truck? He parked behind the black suburban you see in the background right after the other guy got up.
bosburn Says:
Sep 3, 2008 - That's an interesting request. What happens when they get out of the truck? (I'm curious...you're about to send me on an hour hunt through my tapes...)
