Side by side comparison of both the Nissan GTR and the Corvette ZR1 at the Nürburgring (Nordschleife). These two videos were released by GM and Nissan as evidence of lap records, both starting a timer at different points on the track. To compare the laps, Garage419 has used a visual landmark to sync both videos; the pit-exit sign. We invite both drivers of the two cars to come to our garage to discuss their individual laps. - Garage419

Oct 6, 2008 - Rofl the zr1 is nowhere near european supercars let alone the GTR.

gpk24 Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - To all the guys who think the GTR is the new king Shit. Porsche have been testing the GTR against the GT2 at the ring and guess what folks? They could not get within 25seconds of what Nissan claimed. The best that Porsche could get was 7:54... i know what the answer to that is "YEAH WELL OF COURSE PORSCHE SAID THAT"

gpk24 Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - Now this is what really makes you question Nissans claim? The 911 Turbo has 480bhp and is 20kg lighter than the Nissan! That being said, how can the 911 Turbo with the same power, all wheel drive and 20kg lighter, only be able to manage a best at the ring of 7:38... thats a 11 seconds slower than the the Nissan claim of 7:29 for the GTR. If these numbers are correct then the Nissan claim is FAKE!! The only way that would make sense, is that the Nissan claim would have been with race slicks

granturismoking Says:

Oct 6, 2008 - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, that gtr is SLOW AS HELL. I watch the video, and it took 4 seconds to 60, 10 seconds to 100, and 26 seconds to 150. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, not to mention it took 2.5 miles to reach the top end.

doitlive08 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - It doesn't seem like they used launch control. Even if they did, all times will vary. Even Z06's vary. A 4.5 0-60mph and a 12.2 1/4 mile was done for the '06 Z06. I'm amazed at your insistence that the GTR is a "slow car". It is well within supercar territory in both 0-60 times and in the 1/4, and it simply shines in tracks. You've been shown plenty of customer GTR's doing the 1/4 in ~11.7. I don't understand why you go keep going all crazy saying the GTR is not a fast car. Care to elaborate?

doitlive08 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - Actually, my answer would be to check out every single track that the GTR has been tested at by magazines and compare those times with the Porsche times. The GTR will almost always come on top. Check out the VIR Lightning Laps by C&D. The GTR did much better than the '07 911t (looks like Porsche was absent in the '08 Lightning Lap). In fact, it did eight seconds better. On a 4.2 mile track. The GT3 did better at 3:01 and that's still 6 seconds behind the GTR.

gpk24 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - I am talking Nurburgring here pal!! The fact of the matter is, two cars, same power to weight ratio, all wheel drive and a the 911 Turbo loses by 11 seconds BULLSHIT!! The GTR is a great car... except for the clunky tranny around town but thats another story. The GTR is just over 3800Ibs and 480bhp. A ZR1is 3300Ibs and 638bhp... now thats an 11sec advantage, but if you go by the Nissan GTR claim its only 3sec faster than the ZR1 a car with 158hp more and 500Ibs less i dont think so???????

gpk24 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - OOPS!!I meant to say GTR was 3 second slower, not faster than the ZR1. The GTR is a slighty faster car than the 911 Turbo and that has been shown a few times on a few tracks. The best way to see how fast the Nissan GTR is really, around the track is to get Sabine Shmitz, the ring Queen a former pro BMW racer and she has been around the Ring over 20,000 times and sometimes up to 1200 laps a year!! Until then this could go on forever!!!!

deezomaxima Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - It's not a slow car by any means. It's just not as balanced as the ZR1. Anyone watch the ALMS? The Vettes rip shit to pieces in that series.

deezomaxima Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - If the 911 goes mid engine, it may have a faster time on the course.

paulwilliams77 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - They have no competition usually! The few times they race the Aston Martin team they get there ass handed to them. But you knew that already. The damn Vette needed 630 hp to beat the 3900 lb GTR. The V-spec GTR will deal with the ZR1 in due time.

doitlive08 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - Um, no. As I said, just check out all tracks the 911t and GTR have lapped, and you will see the GTR beating it. In the case of the VIR, which is a 4.2 course with similar road conditions with the Nordschleife, the GTR beat the 911t by eight seconds. It beat the Z06 and the stock Viper by 3 seconds. The GTR got 2:55. Check it out yourself.

gpk24 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - Again the GTR will NOT do 7:29 at the ring, and thats thst!!!!!!!!!

doitlive08 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - Ok. everybody is lying. Except Porsche, of course. Got it.

gpk24 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - No, just Nissan lying!!

drsus0 Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - well, doesnt that also apply to the ZR1 then? get Sabine on the Vette and see just how fast it really is to...

gpk24 Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - Sure why not! But, the ZR1 has 638hp 600trq and weighs 3300Ibs with the biggest brakes in the world. I'm going to bet that time is accurate.

navijatt Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - lol i bet that vette was ready to be scrapped after that lap..we all know how crap american cars are :D

gpk24 Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - To make a stupid remark like that, means you have never been around C5 or C6 corvettes!! Sure, alot of American cars are crap... but the vettes, not so. I am lucky to get to enjoy the C6 ZO6 on race tracks, and they are very very reliable, thats a fact!!

jjs4you2 Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - The GTR has to be the worst sounding "Super Car" I have ever heard! Chevy picked one of there least experienced race car drivers in Jim Mero, he is a much more accomplished engineer than a race car driver! I would bet if they had used say Johnny O'connell (GT1 Vette driver) they would of cut at least another 3 seconds off the time! The GTR driver was very smooth without a lot of early turn in's or herky jerky moves on the wheel! unlike Mr Mero driving the ZR1 who did a terrible job.

jjs4you2 Says:

Oct 9, 2008 - You know whats funny here, 99.99% of the time these cars meet will be at a stop light. Now we all know who wins that fight, and it wont be close. The Z06 spanks the GT-R in the 1/4 mile, the ZR1 is much faster than the Z06! Also, when we start to see GT-R's on the streets with their real world tune and tires, it will show how the GT-R's engineers did a great job at the "ring" ;-)

gpk24 Says:

Oct 10, 2008 - Good point about Jim Merlo! I still think Sabine Shmitz, should take both of these cars around the ring... Remember she is the Ring Queen, with 20,000+ laps under her belt.

gpk24 Says:

Oct 10, 2008 - Better yet, get Schumacher to test both at the ring... the outcome of that, would shut everyone up!!

RedundanceBoy Says:

Oct 10, 2008 - Even if the ZR1 were as slow as the GT-R, I'd still take it. I'd prefer a car with some heritage (I won't try explaining this word to you Nissan fags) that I can actually drive (instead of a computer doing the driving for me).

khmerb0i Says:

Oct 10, 2008 - true i don't really like American cars myself but chevy...i gotta hand it to them they have definetely done it with the Z06 and ZR1.VERY impressive and very reasonable priced compared to other supercars.
