1977 classic john deere we bought a rusty old 210 cheap and this is what we got after its restoration shown here without decals yet and the rusty old 38" deck "no longer with us, replaced by a 47" deck" fresh engine rebuild watch how fast it cold starts, actually it usually starts up even faster . my weekly mowing tractor 10 hp very reliable for an old tractor. this tractor had not run in 4 years and had spent those 4 years outside under a deck. so it had a lot of surface rusting but not major. the engine had "NO!!!" oil in it and had apparently been last run like that. supprisingly it was not even seized???!!! the conecting rod lower bearing was badly scoured and ready to seize. we replaced the connecting rod, gaskets, rings, ground the valves, lightly honed the cylender, added 30w "OIL", some fresh paint to both engine and tractor and were back in buisiness. it starts and runs like new!!!

Jul 29, 2008 - try craigslist or a similar website you will find a great selection of potential projects their. this one was nextdoor to my great aunt and she called to tell us her neihgbour was selling 3 mowers together for $100 this one a gilson rider and some pushmower. we only wanted this one so for $100 it was ours not a bad deal for a restorable deere!!

Aug 17, 2008 - i have a 1986 216. Any idea what its worth?

1944johndeerel Says:

Aug 17, 2008 - depending on the condition its in between $250-900 i would estimate. we were willing to pay $100 for this but it needed alot of paint an engine rebuild fresh oil for the tranny. just tlc. i wouldent sell mine for less than $600 if i ever do.

Aug 20, 2008 - exept for the engine all 200 serise john deere garden tractors are virtually identical

Sep 3, 2008 - yes they are

genmac1 Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - man that dude is fast for a riding mower!

1944johndeerel Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - my neighbors thought i modifyed it to go faster! ha! nope! its all factory stock! belt driven peerles transaxle. and its not classifyed as a riding mower this is called a garden tractor. the 70 is a riding mower. it is designed to mow and only do light work. the 210 is a heavy duty tractor. thats the main differance.

genmac1 Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - lol oh well look both ways and dont run over anybody

1944johndeerel Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - why that sounds like fun lol

olddeeres Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - I'm just getting ready to tear a 1986 216 apart to restore it. motor & transaxle are perfect and the paint isn't that bad either, but I'm going to paint it anyway.

olddeeres Says:

Sep 8, 2008 - By the way, nice job. Did you paint it with a gun or a can?

genmac1 Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - well im not gonna come bail you out when cops catch you lol

1944johndeerel Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - cool

1944johndeerel Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - gun attached to compressor

olddeeres Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - Ya, it comes out alot better.

olddeeres Says:

Sep 9, 2008 - When I do them I use plenty of clear coat.

1944johndeerel Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - i have to redo the hood thats why i havent put the decals on yet. it came out like crap. so i have to sand it down and start over just on the hood. then ill slap on the 210 decals. problem is this tractor is in constant use. so it is hard for me to repaint it if im always using it

olddeeres Says:

Sep 10, 2008 - Here's a thought, take the hood off!!! LOL

1944johndeerel Says:

Sep 11, 2008 - yeah iv thought of that lol

benschlechter Says:

Sep 25, 2008 - Reminds me of the old John Deere 214 mower my dad once had before he sold it for a smaller mower.
