PLEASE RATE AND ENJOY! BE BLESSED BY THIS! Long ago, I didn't know nothing about Jesus and His love I had heard about Him, but I had never felt this manna which comes down from above In this life of sin I could no longer stand I asked my mother how do you get to know the man She said you must be, don't you see you've got to be ....Born again You must have that fire and Holy Ghost that Burning churning keeps the prayer wheel turning The kind of religion you cannot conceal It makes you move, makes you shout, Makes you cry when it's real I've got my hand right in the windin' chain My souls been anchored in my Jesus' name I'm filled within, I've free from sin You know I've been born again I started to walk, I had a new walk I started to talk, I had a new talk I looked at my hands, my hands looked new I looked at my feet and they did too I've got my hand right in the windin' chain My souls been anchored in my Jesus' name I'm filled within, I've free from sin You know I've been born again DOROTHY LOVE COATES ALSO HAS A MEMORIAL MYSPACE PAGE... SEARCH FOR HER NAME... Dorothy Love Coates was a composer ("I'm Holding", "Every Day Will Be Sunday"). She was also leading The (Original) Gospel Harmonettes, a female aggregation, who sang Gospel songs. In fact, this group was formed in 1940, and its first members were Mildred Madison Miller, Odessa Glasgow Edwards, Vera Conner Kolls, Willie M. Brooks Newberry and their composer was Evelyn Starks. The first recording of this group was in 1949, without Dorothy Love Coates, who started her recording with the (Original) Gospel Harmonettes in 1951. In the middle 1950s, the group was composed of D. Love, M. Miller, W. Newberry, V. Kolls, O. Edwards, with Herbert "Pee Wee" Pickard, piano. Their records were under the labels Victor, Speciality, Nashboro, Andex and Savoy. Here are some of their songs: "Come and Go With Me", "Every Day Will Be Sunday", "God Shall Wipe Away All Tears", "He's Got Everything You Need", "I'm On My Way", "I Won't Let Go", "Till My Change Comes", "That's Enough".

May 24, 2008 - I would have paid any price to have been present for this great historical program. This is when gospel was gospel and you could feel it. This was the music that led people to the Lord and not to the dance floor! Thank you for posting, I am watching and rocking and crying and missing the roots of gospel music.

Jul 17, 2008 - Remind me of my aunt, Vera Allen who could tear up Zion Rock Baptist Church in Belzoni, Mississippi on 3rd Sunday Morning.

direfranchement Says:

Jul 18, 2008 - Hey Source, I didn't know you had replied...I've been trying to work out this lineup for a while, and I think by process of elimination I have gotten it right, and your identification matches mine with the exception that I don't think Odessa Edwards is there...is the tall woman on the left not Coates's sister, Lillian McGrith (sp)? I had seen a more recent picture of Evelyn Hardy and misidentified Willie Mae Newberry as her here. Also, do you know who of those seen here are still living?
