My son Thinakaran decided to repay his gratitude to Lord Muruga after his father's recent recovery from massive heart attack. It is very normal for Hindu males to react this way. When asked, Karan (my pet name for him) says that is his way to give thanks. It was not easy for me to watch my son going through piercing forehead, tongue and mouth. Personally I feel to have good thoughts, do good deeds to submit to God, in this case to Muruga and carrying a container of milk is enough. I am not really into severe demonstration of physical bodily penance. I may have gone around taking photos, putting on a brave front trying my best to get good shots but really, most times my camera goes but not my eyes. For me, it is a brave step and his experience really opened my eyes to have more faith. It will take some time to get use to this. And just yesterday, he told me he will be complete this for 3 times so I have two more years to bear his penance. Who says others don't do penance, I think I am too. Knowing that he has to complete for three years also means we as a family has to participate doing good deeds, not only my son. Check his story in my site.
