Sep 19, 2008 - My lord! What talent! I agree with thenashman to: to have been there (hopefully sitting through many rehearsals). Thank you for posting. Whenever this film is played on TV (RARELY), I wait for this classic segment. When you watch Cagney do his "Cohan", you appreciate it more if you've seen Cohan. Youtube has a couple of old films and Cagney cops his style to a tee.

Oct 5, 2008 - Almost forgot to add....I read someplace that this scene was rather difficult for Cagney...it was 1955, and our boy Cagney was getting a bit arthritic. Needless to say it was more than painful for him to polish off those same dance steps from 1942, but he did despite the agony...you'da never known that he was suffering as much as he was, cos he made it look so easy.God, whatta hoofer!

Oct 9, 2008 - According to a biography I'd seen hosted by Michael J Fox, Cagney was in excrutiating pain in this number but instisted on doing it to show he still "had it." (As if there'd ever been a doubt!)
