From early morning in King Street Penang, the 130 silver chariot bearing Lord Muruga statue heavily jeweled studded past through several main streets. Roads and streets of Penang were laden with heaps and heaps of coconuts. The one festival where most locals all of races will stand by the side of the road either to watch or participate paying homage. Men, women, young and old with prayer trays and milk in their hands waiting anxiously for the procession to reach them to offer their prayers and homage. By late afternoon, it reaches our General Hospital, Residency on its way to Waterfall Garden. It will be another few hours before it past the junction of Jalan Gottlieb. There, you come upon three major Hindu temples based at the foothills, by the stream. The oldest temple here is the Nattukottai Chettiar Temple which dates from the 1850s. That is where both the silver chariot and the statue finally be placed. From then on, all kavadis bearers with hooks, spooks of metals pierce on body, face will commence their pilgrimage to fulfill their vows. This goes on till the second day which is the peak. This evening after resting since being out since morning, we came back to witness Lord Muruga arrival at the Chettiar Temple. It's spectacular and what an experience. This year it is a little difference as my son decide to participate to pay homage to Lord Muruga for having his father, my husband back form his heart attack. Wait to hear for my true live experience
