Is it Peak Everything now. I know Richard Heinberg thinks so - and he does have a point. Here we are with Food Price hikes. Rising Petrol and Diary prices are obvious signs of the global rush for commodities, wheat and rice are also on the rise. In some of the worlds poorer countries shortages and high prices have combined to provoke disorder, and closer to home retailers are starting to feel the pressure. Which ever way you look at it - food prices are on the rise. Time to stock up. Today for instance Balducci pasta packs were selling for on special for NZ 88 cents (that's half price) at the local supermarket - My response - I brought 3 boxes (12 packets in each box)

May 6, 2008 - The "peak" is also a function of demand. If there were not so many people wanting oil NOW, then less oil would ned to be pumped...and the "peak" would be delayed until demand exceeded capacity to supply. The real peak under all of this is population. It will be behind every "peak" or shortage as human numbers continue to increase. It won't stop becoming ever more severe until numbers top rising and begin to recede.

May 6, 2008 - True, and some good points. Problem is of course - as both you and I well know - they does not appear to be much being done about the 84 million extra people added to this planet each year. Yes a net gain of 84 million each year.

Sep 16, 2008 - Fake inflation of basic items of everyday life is being created, but the human life for which all this is being done seems to be of no price or having no value. Daily hundred thousands of human beings are losing life by different ways. Isnt it possible by United Nations, G-8 or some International Human Rights Commission to work out a formula of basic human rights & needs of life & implement it to end this situation of chaos ending in extremism or terrorism by unaccountable no of ways nowadays?

Apr 26, 2008 - It's fascinating to see how clueless the majority of journalists are about peak oil. Peak oil is a theory which has the property of parsimony - the ability to explain many different seemingly confusing phenomena with a few compact ideas. Hubbert peak theory therefore functions analogously to neo-Darwinism, a compact theory which explains everything in biology, and without which nothing in biology makes sense.
