The company doing this is a professional company with a lot of experience of this sort of thing. If they felt the wind was dangerous they wouldn't lift it. The structure wasn't lifted 'over' the stage (sorry to spoil the illusion), but from behind it so that it appeared above the stage. ...and of course they set fire to it, it was a bloody fire sculpture.
