Three Dog Night's huge hit ballad from 1969 is arguably, the best song they ever did! The melody is huantingly beautiful and has fine lyrics to match. Chuck Negrin was the star of this band and his voice was quite rich and appealing especially the long g flat finish!

Jul 1, 2008 - Can someone tell me who sang this originally?

Varasin Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - This band did the song originally. The singer is Chuck Negron.

simonpenum Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - wickipedia said this was a cover

Varasin Says:

Jul 6, 2008 - Well, the song was used in the musical "Hair", but I don't believe TDNs version is a cover. I think if anything the "Hair" version is a cover. I could be wrong though. :)

sentadoeneltejado Says:

Jul 14, 2008 - This version is a cover. Originally from the musical "Hair," here as performed by Three Dog Night.

Jul 16, 2008 - Wikipedia is very unreliable and not a true source of everything factual.

Roger11733 Says:

Jul 19, 2008 - Three Dog Night was an underated supergroup. They had a unique sound combining a lot of influences. The name of the band from came from Eskimos that would measure the temperature of the night and how many dogs they would have lay on or near them for warmth, so if you woke up and said I had a three-dog-night,it meant you were very cold and the sled dogs kept you warm. No kidding.

system01 Says:

Jul 23, 2008 - Chuck Negron did have a drug issue way back, but Cory & Danny were certainly no "angels" either! I've read that the current reunion problem is due to either Danny or Cory(can't remember which one)did not want Chuck to return at "full-salary" performance pay as they are- and naturally Negron refused. Can you imagine that? I'd refuse too! Believe their was also some resentment toward Negron taking the spotlight too much- but I remember seeing their concerts where each would take turns at lead.

rtsryder Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - Tsk Tsk. Stop. You're both right. Certs is a....wait-wrong product. Anyway, Three Dog Night had what you would call I suppose the "original hit version" as far as AM radio as we knew it in the day. And of course it is from the musical "Hair"

stratman123 Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - I believe the name stems from an Australian custom of using dogs for warmth, not Eskimos...

stratman123 Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - Pieces of April is up there as well!

Roger11733 Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - Thanks for the update, I'll have to do some research; however, isn't Austrailia always warm? Hmm, I'll look this up :)

stratman123 Says:

Jul 27, 2008 - It gets pretty cold in the southern parts-especially around July!

Aug 3, 2008 - "Wikipedia is very unreliable and not a true source of everything factual." Especially when it comes to politics. If something is said about a LIBERAL that the editors at wik don't like (and they do have editors who edit what the public inputs) they'll just stop editing on the page. They BLOCKADED the John Edwards love child story for weeks cause they knew it would hurt dems... Big Daddy

Aug 29, 2008 - This is sung live over a recorded music track. Listen to Cory's backing vocals of "needing friend" @ 2:41. Great! Love Hutton's "helmet hair", too. Isn't this a Laura Nyro tune?
