WEBSITE: http://peterrockchurch.cabanova.com/page1.html E-MAIL: peterrockcogic@yahoo.com HOLY BIBLE KJV Church History - - In 1944, God led Elder James Watson, Pastor of Paradise Temple COGIC, to have a tent meeting in Altgeld Gardens on 130th & Ellis in Block Three near the highway. Many souls were saved and because of their hunger for the Lord, the saints continued to have services from house to house. Elder Watson decided to call this group of faithful followers: Angelus Temple COGIC. - - In 1947 Elder Watson, his Assistant Pastor, Elder Thomas J. Jackson, Sr., along with Deacon Gordon and other saints began to build God a house with no professional help. The end result was a wooden structure with a potbelly stove and outhouse. In later years, it became known as "The Shack." The power of the Holy Ghost moved mightily in this small edifice. When the saints would praise God, dust from the cracks in the floor would fill the house along with the glory of God. - - After Elder Watson left, Deacon Joseph Gordon continued having services and subsequently was called into the ministry. Elder Gordon was appointed Pastor in 1952 and later changed the name to Peter Rock COGIC. - - In 1957, the Lane family joined Peter Rock and Elder Andrew Lane was appointed Assistant Pastor in 1962. Through praying, fasting, and working together, God blessed the church to expand. The Lord led Elder Gordon to build a new edifice and in 1963 the saints joyfully moved into their larger church home. Elder Gordon was known to put a loud speaker outside the church and pray. His voice could be heard throughout the community. - - The Lord called Pastor Gordon to a greater reward on January 4, 1971 and Elder Andrew Lane succeeded him in carrying the pastoral mantle. Shortly thereafter, he appointed Elder John McGhee as his Assistant Pastor and some years later Elder Harold Lane was appointed Assistant Pastor. God gave the increase and spoke to Pastor Andrew Lane "to build." Under his leadership, a larger sanctuary was built in 1986 and the old church became a fellowship hall. - - On January 29, 1995, the Lord called Pastor Andrew Lane from labor to rest and the pastorship was passed to Elder Harold Lane. God is using Pastor Harold Lane greatly as a leader and visionary in this 21st century. In December 1998, a house was purchased as a shelter for men and is now known as Caleb's House. In 1999, a parking lot was constructed and in 2006, the church was expanded to include a larger dining area, more classrooms, and an office space. - - Our history is sound and sanctioned by God. Our foundation is unshakeable and unmovable. The Peter Rock Church family will continue to embrace the scripture by which this church was founded..."Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
